The 10 best moisturizers for dry skin

skin

In theory, finding a good tinted moisturiser should be easy. However, anyone who has truly delved into the world of your-skin-but-better dewy coverage knows that you have to kiss a few frogs before you find The One. Medium coverage, lightweight, SPF, barely there, oil-free, oil-based, cheap and cheerful, worth a small fortune – trust me, not all tinted moisturisers are created equal.

1. Revlon PhotoReady Candid Foundation

Pros: This product will only have a small impact on your bank account, meaning you can experiment with relatively low consequences. Revlon considers Candid Photoready to be medium coverage; however, I’d definitely say it’s on the light to medium side but definitely buildable. It’s dewy, natural-looking and gives good glow. Formulated without oils, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, and harsh fragrances.
Cons: Hm… let me get back to you on that one.
Shade range: Revlon produces 31 shades in total. From those, 16 are available at Priceline online.
Price: $24.95 from Priceline.

2. NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil

Pros: Another cheap and cheerful formulation that glides on like a dream. Compared to Revlon, this product is more on the sheer side but evens skin tone with a subtle dewy finish. It’s great for weekends, WFH days or anytime you want to look cute but also like you didn’t try.
Cons: This is a product that smooths and evens out your complexion, rather than covering it up. Pro tip: on days where you want a little more oomph, pair it with concealer.
Shade range: NYX Professional Makeup creates 12 shades. From those, eight are available at Priceline online.
Price: $24.95 from Priceline.

3. La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL Tinted UV Protection BB Cream

Pros: When it comes to sensitive skin, you can’t beat the French pharmacy brands – La Roche-Posay, Avène, Bioderma, Caudalie, I’m looking at you… If your skin is prone to throwing unannounced tantrums, La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Tinted BB Cream is worth a try. It is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. The tinted finish is sheer with a delightful glow and added SPF means it doubles as sun protection (provided you apply an adequate amount).
Cons: While SPF 50 is always a good thing, this formula does have a subtle sunscreen-y vibe.
Shade range: This product only comes in three shades, the darkest being ‘Medium’, which is not good enough in 2020. C’mon guys.
Price: $35.95 from Adore Beauty.

4. Avène Day Protector Tinted BB Cream SPF30+

Pros: Avène’s take on a BB Cream is SPF30+ (woo hoo!) and quite similar in consistency to the La Roche-Posay BB Cream mentioned above; it is also fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. This product is a low risk choice for anyone with sensitive skin who wants a radiance-boosting product with light natural-looking coverage.
Cons: Avène Day Protector Tinted BB Cream comes in one shade to “suit most complexions”. Again, the brand needs to do better and create a product that suitsall (!) complexions.
Shade range: See above.
Price: $32.99 from Priceline.

5. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

Pros: An icon! This tinted moisturiser is lightweight and oil-free with a sheer to medium coverage depending on what you’re after. People love this stuff – and for good reason too. The glow factor is real thanks to subtle light-diffusing pigments. (Definitely not glittery/sparkly, thank-you-very-much.) If your skin is congested and pimple-prone, a lot of dermatologists will recommend you go oil-free – in this instance, NARS really comes into its own.
Cons: At just over $70, it’s an investment. If you’re worried about dropping the $$ and regretting it later, ask one of the Mecca consultants for a sample to take home and try before you buy.
Shade range: There are 12 shades in production, all available at Mecca online.
Price: $72 from Mecca.
